Hiking report 3/17/18 – The Daugherty Trail

hiking near Stream at Ole Bull State Park

If you’re at Ole Bull State Park in Pennsylvania and looking to do some quick hiking, you can’t beat the Daugherty Trail.

At only two miles, I added a spur hike to Castle Vista. A lovely overlook where Ole, a Norwegian immigrant and violin genius dreamed of settling with his fellow musicians. You can see the basement he dug out in the 1700’s.

While the trail is only two miles in length, it features significant elevation gain, making it rewarding, despite the brevity.

The Susquehannock Trail also passes through the Park.  So if you’re interested in thru hiking, you might want to know that the park campground features flush toilets, showers and the opportunity to meet your crew.

If your party includes those looking for a more mellow experience, you could check out the 0.75 mile (flat) Beaver Dam Nature Trail.
